  On the blue surface of thine aery surge,

  And saw in sleep old palaces and towers

  The sapless foliage of the ocean, know

  If I were a swift cloud to fly with thee;

  The impulse of thy strength, only less free# g5 ?+ J7 f& g2 X( \
  Than thou, O uncontrollable! If even
1 f; H; x$ j' |+ K  I were as in my boyhood, and could be
/ K5 d' u# f( G. _, e  The comrade of thy wanderings over Heaven,
6 L1 _- e6 [% x5 }8 w2 d  As then, when to outstrip thy skiey speed

  Oh, lift me as a wave, a leaf, a cloud!

  A heavy weight of hours has chain'd and bow'd- n4 H: ~+ B- c9 c
  One too like thee: tameless, and swift, and proud.

  What if my leaves are falling like its own!

  Will take from both a deep, autumnal tone,
8 m  U$ w/ C  \5 ~  Sweet though in sadness. Be thou, Spirit fierce,
/ u0 i* W( P3 q; r+ T9 I- }7 t  My spirit! Be thou me, impetuous one!
' I0 u2 N$ H& {2 ~% B  Drive my dead thoughts over the universe( S' l) B7 o5 o3 k' A: @; B
  Like wither'd leaves to quicken a new birth!9 O3 C( ]) y( }) i! h
  And, by the incantation of this verse,* W9 D1 n/ K6 D# {# d
  Scatter, as from an unextinguish'd hearth
& Y* q6 M2 Q1 I& X$ ~: K7 n6 K( f  Ashes and sparks, my words among mankind!
